Briarwood Elementary Science Fair
Register to Participate
All young scientists wishing to display a project at the Fair must register in advance through this online form. If you do not register on-line, we will not be aware of your project or participation. You may work in small groups, but ALL GROUP MEMBERS must register. Registration deadline is March 15, 2012.
Purchase a Display Board
For your convenience, you can purchase a tri-fold dispay board in a variety of colors right on this site. Boards will be delivered to the school and distributed to the classrooms 2-3 weeks before the Fair. Boards must be ordered by March 1 to ensure timely delivery. If you miss this deadline, you can buy a board at an office or craft supply store.
NEW Project & Display Guidelines for Primary Grades
In order to keep the project expectations reasonable and appropriate for all age levels, students in the primary grades (K-2) will be permitted to "skip" the display board process and instead create a model, collection, diorama or other similar display for exhibition at the Fair. See "Presentation Guidelines" or talk to your child's teacher for more information.
Projects should be STUDENT DRIVEN
Project ideas should come from the students, and the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young kids, parents may provide some guidance, but it is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.
Judging and Awards
All entries will be judged the morning of the Fair by our fabulous panel of experts, including district administrators, middle school science teachers, and engineering professionals. Each grade level will have a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winner. Group Projects will be scored separately and are not eligible for individual prizes. Please see the Scoring Rubrics on this site for more details. But remember, first and foremost, our Fair is about the learning process and the excitement of experimentation and discovery.

Need help choosing a topic?
Think about what interests you. Earth & Space? Life Sciences? The Environment? Chemistry? Consumer Sciences? When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky's the limit! The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources. Check out the "Choosing Your Topic" link at the top of the page!
Volunteers Needed!
A big event like the Science Fair wouldn't be possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers. If you have always wanted to learn how to use the button maker, or you can spare an hour or two on the day of the fair, we would love your help! Visit the PTA website to sign up.
